The prevalence and co-occurrence of substance and process addictions, such as tobacco, illicit drugs, exercise, eating, gambling, internet, alcohol, love, sex, work, and shopping deserves more attention than most people want to imagine.

D’Amore Healthcare helps individuals and their loved ones step back from common symptoms. Symptoms of isolation, anger and fear can be overcome when we make decisions in our care. We strive to listen and work backwards based on your goals, your needs. It is daunting for people to face a chronic brain disorder alone. We are here to outline a treatment plan for relief and restoration.

70-90% of people who engage care for their mental illness report improvements in quality of life.

Some addictions, like workaholism or alcoholism, may be self-injurious, but look acceptable, even appealing. Also, addictions lead to dangerous actions (e.g., driving while preoccupied with work matters, driving under the influence of a mood or mind altering substance, driving while texting the office, driving after only 2 hours of sleep). Temporarily, social and financial rewards may detract from related health problems. But, addiction eventually impairs all dimensions of well-being: the physical, mental, emotional, social, financial, professional and spiritual.

Whether you’re aware of it or not, chances are you know someone who has been personally affected by a mental health disorder. Maybe, that someone is you.

Research on mental health epidemiology shows that mental disorders are common throughout the United States. This affects tens of millions of people each year.

Overall, only about half of those affected receive treatment. For example, about 7 or 8 out of every 100 people will experience PTSD at some point in their lives. Among many symptoms, prevalence can be masked by; working too much, coping at happy hour, marital strife, abuse of prescription medications, fits of rage, and escalating from legal drugs to illegal drugs. Thus, leading to a strong sense of helplessness.

Approximately 6.7 percent of American adults – about 14.8 million people – live with major depression.

Adults living with serious mental illness

Mental illness is different than cancer or a broken leg. In fact, getting an accurate diagnosis requires looking at feelings, experiences, behaviors, social patterns and physical health.

Most of all, don’t be afraid to reach out if you or someone you know needs help. Because, learning all you can about mental health is an important first step.

According to Colton, Manderscheid, and Parks (2006), individuals living with serious mental illness face an increased risk of having chronic medical conditions. In fact, adults living with serious mental illness die on average 25 years earlier than other Americans. Consequently, adults live longer when they seek treatment.

Three Phases of Care

  • First — Comfort: Physical detoxification and/or stabilization (3-7 days)
  • Second — Clarity: Education, discussion, experiential therapy, focused individual sessions with your counselor, expanding and deepening the patient’s support system (20-30 days).
  • Third — Continuity: Taking action around goals, needs, strengths and physical health (7-15 days)

Furthermore, all three phases ensure the foundation for each patient to take action and apply what they’ve been learning. This is why many clients benefit from continuing outpatient care, depending on their preferred living arrangements.

In conclusion, as a combination of all three phases D’Amore strives to work with every patient for 35-45 days. Furthermore, your continuing care plan will be unique based on your needs.
