Schizophrenia is a severe mental health disorder that distorts a person’s sense of reality. It affects a person’s ability to regulate emotions, make decisions, and coherently discuss their needs and feelings. Schizophrenia can also disrupt a person’s daily life, affecting their ability to bathe, maintain dental hygiene, sleep, and eat properly. Without treatment, Schizophrenia can erode away a person’s social and professional life.
The symptoms of Schizophrenia cause a person to isolate and withdraw into themselves. This, coupled with the fragmentation of their speech and thought patterns makes it difficult to support someone in the throes of untreated Schizophrenia.
Trauma can be caused by a single extreme experience or a recurring series of events. These traumatic instances are difficult to process. The experience can leave a person feeling helpless or out of control emotionally. These feelings can grow into anxiety and leave a person feeling numb and disconnected from their life. Often, people who experience traumatic events in their lives have a hard time trusting others. They feel overwhelmed and threatened by their surroundings. Some people who have experienced trauma develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Whether you have experienced a trauma or have PTSD, feelings of fear and heightened stress are common. In addition, the nature of trauma makes co-occurring substance abuse or behavioral health disorders quite common.
General Anxiety Disorder and and Panic Disorder can cause those afflicted to feel powerless and overwhelmed. The root of anxiety and panic disorders is complicated. A successful solution is equally complex. The short-term answer is breathing, grounding and meditation. The long-term answer is a comprehensive psychiatric program which includes the former. D’Amore Healthcare ensures a soothing environment to dive into your goals. The skill building around mindfulness and self-regulation is immediately empowering.
We are a nationally-recognized, licensed mental health facility that has helped individuals suffering from anxiety and panic disorders find a new road to mental wellness.
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and conduct disorder are usually associated with children and adolescents. However, they can affect young adults and even people later in life. ADD and ADHD are commonly diagnosed mental health conditions. However, they are not always caught early enough and treated effectively. As a result, they can continue into adulthood.
Similarly, with Conduct Disorder, the common assumption is that the child, adolescent, or young adult is merely “acting out” and will outgrow their behavior. This often prevents families from getting proper psychiatric treatment. Furthermore, these conditions can also be masked by co-occurring substance abuse or behavioral disorders.
