D’AMORE NURSE ADDICTION (DNA™) TREATMENT PLAN
You’ve been there for your patients. We’ll be there for you. Because treating nurses is in our DNA.
SUBSTANCE ABUSE AMONG NURSES POSES SIGNIFICANT DANGERS
Addiction treatment, mental wellness, recovery and return-to-work issues can be especially challenging for nurses. As healthcare professionals struggling with addiction, your license and livelihood are on the line.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE
Approximately 200,000 nurses in America have a substance abuse problem, which equates to 1 nurse in 10. While this rate is similar to that of the general population, the obvious concern is the risk to public safety. Substance abuse (addiction, dependence, tolerance, withdrawal) in nursing poses a danger not only to you, the healthcare professional in the trenches, but to the patients you want to serve.
NURSES’ DEDICATION TO PATIENT CARE MAKES YOU EXTREMELY VULNERABLE TO ADDICTION
Repeated emotional trauma, irregular shift work, stress hormones, erratic eating, workplace injury causing chronic pain and the stress of high caseloads all contribute to compromised self-care for the nursing professional.
Even self-awareness is impaired while in a dynamic role to care for others. Nurses have extensive knowledge of pharmaceuticals and ready access to medications. It’s not difficult to fathom that a plan for short-term relief can potentially transform into a full-blown addiction. Furthermore, for most nurses, feelings of loneliness and anxiety, financial strain, fear of losing a job or license and the stigma associated with addiction place treatment seemingly out of reach. For these and other reasons, nurses typically have less access to comprehensive addiction treatment services and recovery support resources than many of their professional colleagues in health care.
D’AMORE HEALTHCARE RECOGNIZES THAT EVERY PERSON’S SITUATION IS DIFFERENT AND WE BUILD A PLAN SPECIFIC TO YOUR NEEDS
As a nurse, you need a resource that empathizes with your unique pressures.
The very strengths prized in nurses; problem solver, healer, caretaker and perfectionist can be the stumbling blocks to addiction recovery. Nurses have workplace challenges that can complicate sustained recovery, such as easy access to medications and bureaucracy that makes it difficult to feel seen and cared for by management. Sometimes, limited insurance benefits can also make it difficult to receive inpatient care. But, it’s time. Addiction can be treated and managed for life. Nurses are our specialty. Like you, we are sensitive, intuitive, go-the-distance healthcare professionals who bring dignity, safety and compassion into the details.
WE HAVE DEVELOPED AN ADDICTION TREATMENT PLAN SPECIFICALLY FOR NURSES
Traditional treatment programs offer support after disciplinary action. The DNA™ Treatment Plan is an integrative, personalized approach to addiction treatment for nurses. Based on our proprietary Gracious Redundancy theory of positive reinforcement, ours is a completely non-disciplinary, non-judgmental plan focused on helping nurses overcome their addiction.
D’Amore Healthcare’s clinicians take into consideration your goals and professional talents, physical and mental health, family relationships, types of substances of use, gender, work history and many other factors. Utilizing these differences is important in developing the best possible plan to help you get well… so you can stay well.
WE ARE CAREGIVERS CARING FOR CAREGIVERS
D’Amore’s healthcare professionals provide compassionate and confidential treatment to fellow healthcare professionals. We treat nurses suffering from addiction with the same gracious caring and dignity they give to their patients every day. As healthcare providers, we understand the unique challenges, risks and stresses nurses face in the wake of their profession.
Prior to admission, DNA Treatment Plan staff will provide you with a detailed and individualized recommendation for clinical care. We also provide specific recommendations regarding counseling, fitness, finance, nutrition, down time and mindfulness. Furthermore, D’Amore Healthcare clinicians provide an evaluation summary for your employer, monitoring and licensing boards as needed.
As a signature D’Amore Healthcare 45-60 day Treatment Plan, we utilize three texts to guide the plan’s tenants:
The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins
Braving the Wilderness: The Quest for True Belonging and the Courage to Stand Alone by Brene Brown
The Basic text from Alcoholics Anonymous
The only limit is the one you decide on. Let’s take out all the reasons why you can’t and look at the main reason why our DNA Treatment Plan makes sense for you today: superheroes are only in the comics. D’Amore Healthcare exists to treat the authentic, messy, often lonely and confused human professional. Both exist simultaneously: human (worthy, limited, finite, 8 rights of living) and professional (skilled, in demand, talented, gifted).
